VALDEZ GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM WINS TWO IN TOK
The Valdez Huskies A team travelled to Tok this past weekend to play games against a very small Tok squad. The Huskies showed great composure in their 41 to 3 win Friday night, slowing down the game and working to run through their offense. Carlie VanBuskirk scored 16 points Friday, Kelsey Prax picked up six points and Rylee Wade tossed in five points. On Saturday night, the starters stepped on the court with the goal of working on their three point game. The starting lineup played the 1st and 3rd quarters and hit 7 three point shots. VanBuskirk drained three 3pt shots, Wade made two, Destiny Day hit one and Prax drained a three-pointer. The Huskies won Saturday 35 to 4. Lola Compehos did not hit a three pointer Saturday, but last weekend Compehos hit a key three pointer against Glennallen. “We have five legit three point shooters on this middle school team and that’s pretty fun,” remarked Coach Laurie Prax. “This weekend was a great opportunity to focus on that aspect of the game”. Prax said that while the starting five had the long-range game going, the second squad really stepped up their inside game. Izzy Kiser and Lilia Rissman did a nice job executing post moves and Sydney Cronk, Kelli Malcuit and Autumn Boone handled the ball well and made strides attacking the basket on offense. Both the Valdez A and B teams will play against Glennallen this weekend at home.
