Stan Stephens Glacier & Wildlife Cruises made the difficult decision to cancel its operations for the 2020 summer season.
The Stan Stephens Cruises family has been sharing the wonders of Prince William Sound with guests since 1971. This summer – its 49th year of operation – the longtime glacier day cruise operator will pause service due to circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The health and safety of our employees, their families, our guests and the Valdez community is our number one priority,” said Colleen Stephens. “The last thing we want is for our operations to potentially tax the health care resources in Valdez, and want to ensure that we have the resources to implement a successful and healthy 2021 summer season.”
“Stan Stephens Cruises has created the necessary Operation and Mitigation Plans to be able to successfully operate in the COVID-19 world and will be ready enact those plans when the timing is right in 2021” stated Colleen Stephens. “We appreciate all the efforts that the medical teams in Valdez, the City of Valdez response teams and residents have taken to ensure the health and safety of our community.”
Stan Stephens Cruises is a proud employer of an all Alaskan staff of 4 year round and 30
seasonal coworkers, the majority of whom reside in Valdez. “Our company would like to thank Valdez for the continued support of our business and for the exceptional coworkers for their understanding and support of our decision. We are looking forward to and planning for a strong 2021 with all of our partners in the industry and in our community.”
