VHS Weekend Wrap-Up – May 7, 2018

Track & Field – Becky Walker/Lee Chadwick

5/4/18 Meet in Houston

 

The weather was icy cold and wind was fierce and biting this weekend in Houston but the indomitable Buccaneers had a great meet competing against 18 other 3A and 4A teams.

-Owen Chadwick ran a personal best in the 100m in 11.75 seconds and finished 8th overall.  He is currently ranked 3rd in our region. He had another personal best in the 400m at 54.16 for a 4th place overall finish.

-Kyler LaBonte high jumped 5’8” for a personal record and a 4th place finish. In the 100m Kyler also had a personal record of 12.52.

-Kalin Woods set personal records in both the 800m and 1600m at 2:18.05 and 5:03.62  respectively.

-Hayden Howard had a great race in the 200m with a 25.46.

-The boys 4X100 team of Hayden Howard, Kyler LaBonte, Kyle Sodergren, and Owen Chadwick placed 5th with a time of 48.72.

-The 4X200 team of Hayden Howard, Luke Baczuk, Kyle Sodergren, and Kyler LaBonte placed 7th with 1:43.59.

-The 4X400 team of Hayden Howard, Kalin Woods, Blue Dunsworth and Kyle Sodergren had a time of 4:00.81 and finished 8th overall.

-Stan Morales threw a 29’2.25 in Shot Put and 88’3” in Discus.

-Chase Randal threw a personal best of 29’2” in Shot Put.

-Gaspar DeLeon had a Shot Put of 27’11.5”

-Brenner Wilson threw a personal best in the Discus at 70’1”

 

For the Lady Bucs:

-Kassi Howard finished 3rd in the High Jump with a jump of 5’8”.

-Jade Watts finished 5th place overall in the 400m with a 1:06.12 in prelims and a 1:06:55 in the finals.

-Katie Wadsworth sat a personal records in the 110m at 14.53 and a 32.15 in the 200m.

-Sophia Palomar ran the 100m in 14.91 and the 200m in 14.91.

-Marianne Prax ran the 100m Hurdles in a personal best time of 21.06 and the 300m Hurdles in 1:05.54 and Long jumped 11’10.5”.

-Savannah Cockerham set personal records in each of her events with a finish time of 25.32 in the 100m Hurdles a 1:02.99 in the 300m Hurdles and a 12’10.75” Long jump.

-Hunter threw 26’3.75” in Shot Put and 46’6” in Discus.

-The girl’s 4x 100 team of Jade Watts, Sophia Palomar, Katie Wadsworth, and Kassi Howard finished with a time of 55.92 and were 5th overall.

It’s truly exciting to see each team member not just working toward excellence personally, but helping, and coaching each other on better form and technique and then, ultimately better scores! This is a great group to work with!

 

Forensic Class Trip – Jenny Heckathorn

 
On Friday, May 4, Mrs. Heckathorn took 11 Students from her Forensics Class, on a field trip to the State Crime Lab in Anchorage. Students got to visit a variety of rooms designed for latent fingerprinting, studying blood spatter, processing DNA, learning how to use a comparison microscope, saw where ballistics are tested and got to see the confiscated gun collection.
