VHS Volleyball: (Coach Ron Langseth)
The Lady Bucs competed at the Grace Christian Invitational Volleyball tournament. The Ladies continue to refine their game and get better. As with all competition their can be ups and downs, thankfully, the ladies experienced more ups then downs. On Friday the Ladies played in a round robin pool. The Ladies finished the long day of volleyball with a 5-2 record, allowing us to join the best 3A and 4A team of the Tournament. Fridays Scores:
Win – Kenai 25-8
Win – Homer 25-7
Loss- Palmer 22-25
Win – Nikiski 25-18
Win – Kotz 25-21
Loss- Bartlett 14-25
Win – SuValley 25-10
On Saturday we got the opportunity to play in the upper bracket Platinum where we faced last year State Champions the Mt. Edgecume Braves. The Ladies played well and capitalized on their energy to win 2 sets to 1. Next the Ladies face the Bartlett from Anchorage. We dropped that game in 2 straight sets, but proved we are capable of playing some of Alaska’s best 4A teams. Our final game was against Seward were a slow start and time got the best of us, as time ran out and we were not able to finish the game. Seward won 2 sets to 1.
Individually the were a lot of great efforts throughout the team. Offensively Kassi Howard, Sydnee Johnson and Bobbi Mott led the team with a combined 101 Kills…Sydnee led the team with a Kill Efficiency of 35%…Kassi Howard followed with 28%. Defensively Sydnee Johnson led in blocking while Linnea Langseth led in diggs with 145 touches. Linnea was followed by Jade Watts with 72. The Ladies were aided by improved serving as 5 players served 90% or better on Friday and Saturday.
VHS Wrestling: (Coach Tyler Thompson)
With a young team the Bucs have a bright future ahead if them. We have a couple of strong returners along with some new faces in the room. Our coaching staff is excited to see how their wrestling develops throughout the year. The bucs are working hard and are prepared to leave it all on the mat.
(First Wrestling Meet is Friday, October 13 at the Houston Invite.)

Travel to and From Bartlett was smooth with Clear Roads & Some Rain. The Team was very wore out this swim meet, with about half the team with sinus congestion & cough. Despite not being 100% we had about 50% time drop and for the swims that we did not drop time on the swimmers were able to hold close to their best times so far. I was very proud of the team for stepping up and pushing through the set backs they were faced with.
On Friday, the Team got to practice and have free time with West Anchorage High School. They were able to observe how a larger team workouts, be in a different pool environment, meet & interact with other athletes from a different school. It was an empowering & growing experience for the team.
