Valdez Police Report

and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

11/13

Burglar Alarm: Dispatch received a call from an alarm company that an alarm was activated at a local business.  Officers arrived and found an open door but no one inside the business.  The property was secured by the owners.

School Patrol: Several vehicles were stopped for violations during school patrol.  VPD would like to remind drivers of the posted speed limits in school areas and that drivers are required to stop at stop signs.

Citizen Contact: While on patrol a VPD officer noticed a man attempt to back his vehicle out of his driveway. The officer reminded him that he does not have a license.

Civil Standby: Officers assisted with a court ordered standby in order for an individual to retrieve items from their home.

Criminal Mischief: A caller reported that their vehicle was keyed while she was parked in front of her residence.  This case is currently under investigation.

Traffic Hazard: A stop sign was reported to have been blown over. It was recovered and passed onto the city shop.

School Patrol: Several vehicles were stopped for violations during school patrol.  VPD would like to remind drivers of the posted speed limits in school areas and that drivers are required to stop at stop signs.

Animal Noise: VPD dispatch received a complainant regarding an ongoing issue with neighbor’s dogs that are barking continually for hours every morning.  The animal control officer responded.

Home Confinement – Frank E. Cook checked in to serve 3 days of home confinement.  Original charge was a DUI.

Theft Other – A handgun was reported stolen out of a vehicle.  This case is currently under investigation.

Home Confinement – Jonathan Kays checked in to serve 3 days of home confinement.  Original charge was DUI.

Animal at Large – VPD received a report regarding an ongoing issue with dogs running loose in Robe River Subdivision.  Animal Control could not locate the dogs but knew the owner and would advise them with a warning.

Home Confinement – Seth McCollum checked in to serve 3 days of home confinement.  Original charge was DUI.

Civil Issues – An individual called to report that a local female was scamming via Pay Pal.  Officers tried to contact the complainant back but have not received an answer.

Reckless Driving –  A caller reported that someone had ran her off the road.  Officers made contact with the suspect driver who was unaware that they had caused another driver to run off the road.

DUI – VPD dispatch received a report of a possible DUI leaving a parking area.  Officer made contact with the driver.  Chelsea Selanoff, DOB: 5/15/92, of Valdez was subsequently arrested for DUI.  Her BraC registered a .328 on the Datamaster.

11/17

Traffic Hazard – Large rocks were reported on the highway due to a loader dropping them from the bucket.  The owner was contacted and they cleared the rocks.

Theft – A resident reported theft of heating fuel from their residence.  This case is currently under investigation.

Child Custody – An individual called VPD to request to speak with an officer in regards to child custody issues.

Drill – VPD participated in the mass causality exercise “Moving & Shaking” with Providence Hospital.

Animal at large – VPD received a report of a black & brown dog running loose out in Alpine Woods area. The Animal control officer could not locate the dog.

Gunshots heard – A caller reported hearing shots.  Officers found someone shooting off fireworks and they were advised that it was illegal to set them off in the area.

Traffic Complaint – An officer made contact with a Juvenile driver who was seen “drifting” on Hanagita Street.  The driver was given a warning for Reckless Driving.

11/18

Disturbance Noise – A resident was awoken by a car alarm going off in their driveway.  When they went out to investigate they saw an individual down the street.  Officer arrived on the scene and found the car was locked and were unable to locate anyone in the area.

Abandoned Vehicle – A caller reported that a red pickup was possibly abandoned in Mineral Creek. Officers made contact with owner and informed them that it needed to be removed from the creek.

Welfare Check – A motorist was concerned about children playing on a frozen pond.  When officers arrived the children had already broken through the ice but the water was only ankle deep.

Domestic Dispute – A caller reported that they were having issues with their roommate.  Officers arrived and determined it was only a verbal argument and told the occupants to stay in separate rooms.

Aggressive Animal – A caller reported that a Saint Bernard attacked her dog while she was walking on Pioneer Street.  Her dog was not harmed, but wanted the information passed on to Animal Control.

Welfare Check – A concerned friend called to request a welfare check on their friend that they haven’t heard from in awhile, which was unusual.  Officers attempted to locate the individual but have been unsuccessful in finding them.  The friend later called back to say they had finally hear from their friend and they were fine.

Bar Disturbance – A bartender reported a fight in progress.  Officers arrived and separated everyone. The individual causing the issues left the premises with his sister.

Suspicious Vehicle – A caller reported that a vehicle had been parked at the bank for awhile.  When officers arrived they found the owner of the vehicle and they were doing work inside the bank.

Fire Report

11/14

Valdez Fire Department responded to a possible electrical fire. After investigation of the building, no fire was located.

11/17 

Valdez EMS participated in the Providence Valdez Medical Center disaster drill.

11/18 

Valdez Fire responded to a fire alarm activation at the Valdez High School. The culprit was the fog machine that set off the alarm. The fog machine was reset along with the fire alarm system.

Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing assistance.  The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

11/19 

Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac.

Valdez Fire Department investigated a carbon monoxide detector activation.
