On August 24 at 10:25 am Hazmat personnel responded to a report of a propane smell in Corbin Creek. The area was checked and no propane was found in the area.
 
On August 24 at 3:19 pm EMS personnel assisted the medevac team transport a patient to the airport for a flight to Anchorage for further treatments.
 
On August 26 at 11:00 pm Fire, Hazmat and EMS personnel responded to a propane leak with several sick residents from inhalation of gases. Crews arrived at Ernesto’s to find a female exiting the building having difficulty breathing. The call for further assistance was placed by the incident commander. Two ambulances, one engine company and the truck company were on scene clearing the facility. The building was cleared of gas smells and then allowed to enter after the source was identified. The patient was treated on scene and released.
 
On August 27 at 11:40 am EMS personnel responded to a forty year old man who had wrecked his vehicle the night before and had lacerations on his head and shoulder pain. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center for further treatment.
 
On August 28 at 9:37 am EMS personnel responded to the Mt Sky Hotel to assist a 17 year old man who was ill. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center for further treatment.
 
On August 30 at 7:04 am Fire personnel responded to the Senior Center for alarm activation. The cooks were cooking in the kitchen and no ventilation was working due to the remodel. The smoke was cleared and the system reset.

Fish & Game: A black bear was reported to be circling and entering a dumpster by a residential area.  Bear departed the area without incident.

 

Lost Property:  A canvas type grocery bag containing various items was reported left at the Rendezvous Music Festival on 8/21/10. Please turn into the police department if found.

 

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a subject who was out fishing and had not returned.  Subject was contacted and was fine.

 

Fish & Game:  A black bear was reported in the back yard of a private residence.  The bear entered into the woods without incident.

 

Animal Info:  Four bunnies were reported dead of possible poisoning.

 

Lost Property:  A silver and blue specialized women’s bike was reported lost.  Please contact the police department if you have any information regarding this item.

 

Fish & Game:  A report of a bear getting into garbage was made.  The bear disappeared into the woods upon officer’s arrival.

Suspicious Vehicle:  Assistance was requested in locating the owner of a gray truck parked at a local business. The lights had been left on in the locked vehicle and the truck had rolled backwards.

Assault Weapon:  A random drive-by paint ball shooting was reported.  This case is currently under investigation.

 

Fish & Game: A bear was reported knocking over garbage cans.  

 

Animal Surrender:  A cat was turned into the Animal Shelter for adoption.

 

Animal At Large:  A husky mix was reported running at large on the highway.

 

Fish & Game:  Two reports were received of a bear in the residential area of the city.  Officers were unable to locate any bear.

Fish & Game:  A bear was reported in the area of a dumpster, causing concern among the construction workers in the area.  No bear there upon officer’s arrival.

 

Theft of Property:  A dark green LaFuma chaise lounge was reported stolen from a local residence.  Please contact the police department with any information you might have regarding this item.

 

Fish & Game: A bear was reported wandering through several different locations around town. 

 

Public Assist:  An officer stopped to assist what appeared to be a vehicle in distress. The vehicle was on the side of the road with his flashers on.  No distress, just a tourist taking in the scenery.

 

Arrested: Tommy D. Higgs, DOB: 4/26/1969 for Assault in the Fourth Degree.

 

Found Property: A pair of eye glasses was found in the vicinity of the courthouse.  Please contact the police department to claim.

Disturbance:  An officer responded to a report of a beeping noise coming from the inside a building.  Building manager was contacted and took care of the noise.

 

Disturbance: Officers responded to a report of a verbal dispute occurring in the middle of the road.  The officers were unable to locate anyone arguing in the road or anywhere else.

 

Fish & Game: A bear was reported in a residential area.  The bear left the area prior to officer’s arrival.

Fraud:  Officers are investigating a case where a fraudulent number was posted to another’s Craigslist add in an attempt to sell the complainant’s boat without their permission.

 

Theft of Property:   The theft of a gold dredge and related equipment was reported. 

 

Summonsed: Jacob L. Remer, DOB: 12/31/89, of Valdez, for Theft in the Second Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

 

Found Property: A tool and socket set was found and turned into the police department.  Please contact the department with further identifiers to claim.

 

Fish & Game: A bear was reported in a residential area.  Bear was hit with a bean bag and fled into the woods.

 

Found Property:  A blue and silver NEXT bicycle was found and turned into the police department.  Please contact VPD  with further identifiers to claim.

 

Animal At Large:  A skinny, golden retriever with short hair, who appeared to be injured, was reported running at large.  Officers were unable to locate any animal matching those descriptors.

Disturbance: Officers were requested at a residence where a couple was in a verbal argument.  Both parties were separated for the evening without further incident.

 

Fish & Game:  A bear was reported on a back porch.  Bear was not in the area upon officer’s arrival.

 

Animal Noise:  Officer responded to an on-going problem of a dog   barking for over an hour. 

 

Theft:  The theft of a sum of money and wallet was reported. This case is under investigation.

 

 Animal Surrender:  A cat was surrendered to the Animal Shelter.

 

Found Property: A checkbook belonging to Joseph Bartoli was found and turned into the police department.  Please contact the department to claim.

 

Fish & Game: A large black bear was reported trying to enter a residence.  No bear was found.

 

Agency Assist:  A Valdez residence called saying his wife was on parked on the side of the Chickaloon Highway and was requesting an ambulance.  Dispatch contacted State Troopers and passed on information.

Bar Disturbance:  Officer’s were requested at a local bar to assist with an unruly customer, who was refusing to leave.

Arrested:  Brandon L. Bahr, DOB: 8/28/83, of Anchorage for Drunken Person on Licensed Premises and Disorderly Conduct.

 

Bar Disturbance:  Officers responded to a report of a fight in the parking lot of a local bar. 

 

Arrested:  Clayton E. Strickland, DOB: 3/18/80 of Valdez, for Assault in the Fourth Degree.

 

Warrant Arrest:  Jaime Edward Doleman, DOB: 8/29/83 of Valdez, was arrested on an APD Warrant citing Failure to Satisfy Judgment on an original charge of DWLS/R.

 

Criminal Mischief:  Officers investigated a report of a door being kicked, causing damage to the lock of  a public building.

 

Animal at Large:  A complaint of an on-going problem of two dogs constantly running at large was made.

 

Animal Impound: A husky found running loose in Keystone Canyon was impounded.

 

Possible Drunk Driver: A report a brown Dodge pickup weaving over the center and side line was reported.  Officers were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

 

Disturbance:  A complaint of intoxicated individuals being loud and threatening was made.  No loud individuals, intoxicated or otherwise, were located upon officer’s arrival.

Attempted Burglary:  Officers responded to a report of someone trying to enter a local business.   No individual or entry to a building was found.

 

Agency Assist:  Officers removed a bear carcass from Dayville Road.

 

Animal Surrendered: A cat was dropped off at the Animal Shelter.

 

Parking:  A complaint of trucks with boat trailers parked on a sidewalk was made.  Owners were contacted and told not to park on the sidewalk.

 

Disturbance:  Officers responded to a disturbance at a local residence.  Subjects were separated for evening with no further incident.

 

Information: A report was made of kids kicking bicycle tires at a vacant lot.  No kids were present at the lot upon officer’s arrival.

 

Fish & Game:  Officers responded to a request to assist is chasing away a bear at a local campground that kept coming back to the same campsite.

 

Lost Property:  A women’s white gold plain wedding band, size 6.5, was reported lost somewhere in the vicinity of the Small Boat Harbor near the Best Western.  Please turn into the police department if found.

 

Theft of Property:  The theft of a dip net and a drop net with a rope attached was reported.  Please contact the police department if you have any information regarding these items.
