VCVB LOOKING FOR AN Assistant/Services Coordinator
The Valdez and Convention & Visitors Bureau is looking to hire an Alaskan resident to serve as the Administrative Assistant and Services Coordinator for the office in Valdez. It is required that you submit a professionally formatted cover letter with your application detailing your experience, training and/or education and how you meet or exceed the minimum qualifications for this job role.  It is required that you submit a professionally formatted resume with your application.  Resumes should be submitted in Word or PDF format. Please provide three employment references that can attest to your suitability for this position. Your cover letter and resume will be considered as a writing sample and will be used to determine which applicants will advance to the interview phase of the recruitment and selection process.

Legends of the Celtic Harp will present a new show "A Winter Gift" at the Valdez Civic Center on Thursday, December 4th at 7pm.  "A Winter Gift" is presented by three of the premier Celtic Harpists in the world. Patrick Ball, Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter perform Celtic legends, along with Irish and English literature woven together with beloved and rare pieces of holiday music. This trio is well known for  their first show "Legends of the Celtic Harp" which tells stories and legends of the harp through time. In their new show “A Winter Gift” storyteller and wire-strung harpist Patrick Ball along with harpers and multi-instrumentalists Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter step into a magical world of Irish and English literature. The trio presents a heartwarming collection of tales and music from Celtic legend and traditional folk stories. They perform a  Child’s Christmas in Wales, a chapter from The Wind in the Willows, and passages from Shakespeare, William Butler Yeats, and Thomas Hardy, and mingle them with beloved and original pieces of seasonal music. Audiences will hear three Celtic Harps, Swedish Nyckelharpa, Fiddle, Bandura, Bouzouki and more.

Ducks Unlimited is having an event in Valdez, Saturday November 15th at 5:30pm. There will be a prime rib dinner served, and tickets are $30 for youth and $50 for adults. Tickets for the event are available online at

Juneau, Alaska - The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) once again invites photographers from Alaska and beyond to enter your photographs in our Alaska Fishing Families Photo Contest.  The Fan Favorite Grand Prize winner, which will be decided by ASMI’s Facebook fans, will win two round-trip tickets on Alaska Airlines. In addition to the Facebook Fan Favorite, ASMI will select the appropriate category for each photo and award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each of the following categories:

More than 170 people will gather in Valdez on Wednesday for three days of workshops, meetings and presentations designed to address the issues facing electric utilities in Alaska. Those in attendance will hear an update on the Allison Creek Hydroelectric Project, and some insight on what is happening with Eklutna Generation Station. These are both in addition to the host of speakers on hand with ranging areas of expertise.

Valdez Arts Council will be hosting the annual Blues Cruise Fundraiser this Friday with live music from Rik Nielsen and friends. Boarding begins at 6:30 pm with a 7pm departure on the Stan Stephen’s MV Valdez Spirit. The cost is $50 per ticket and you can get your tickets at A Rogue’s Garden and Harbor Landing General Store.

Valdez Parks & Rec invites you to join Jennifer Pharr Davis, an endurance hiker named 2012’s National Geographic Adventurer of the Year this Tuesday at 7 P.M at the Valdez Library. Jennifer has logged over 12,000 miles on some of the world’s best trails across six different continents. They will also be announcing the H.A.W.K. finale winners! Please join us at the Valdez library, for what is sure to be an exciting and inspiring presentation from this world class athlete, author and wilderness adventurer. 

Meetings for a local support group welcomes parents, family and friends of children who are intellectually gifted yet challenged by behavioral issues, Autism spectrum, ADHD, OCD and more, will take place on the second Monday of each month at 7pm in the Coast Guard Community Center.
