BITE BACK RUN TAKES ON MALARIA
The 4^th annual Bite Back Run will take place on Saturday, June 1^st. All proceeds collected at the Bite Back Run support Compassion International’s Malaria Fund. The Malaria Fund seeks to end malaria worldwide by providing mosquito nets, educating families on malaria risks and treating those suffering from malaria. Registration for the Bite Back Run will start at 10am at the John Kelsey Dock Plaza. The 5K race will begin at 11am. The event also features a Kid’s One Mile Race that will begin at 10:45am for children 10 and under.  Individual runners can register for $10 and families can sign up for $20.

 

HALIBUT DERBY STARTS THIS SATURDAY
The Valdez Halibut Derby will get underway this Saturday. The Grand Prize for the largest halibut caught in Valdez is $15,000. A $10 daily Derby ticket gives anglers the chance to win weekly 1st and 2nd place prizes, in addition to the over top three cash prizes. Everyone who purchases a derby ticket is entered in a drawing to win a 2013 Ford F-150 Truck. For more information, visit: www.valdezfishderbies.com

RELAY FOR LIFE PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE
Organizers of the Relay for Life are hoping to Paint the Town Purple with fundraisers geared toward raising money for the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life teams will be hosting four fund-raisers this Saturday:
* 11am to 2pm -  Car Wash at Fire Department
* 10am to 2pm - Yard Sale at PWSCC Student Commons
* 9am to 2pm – Garage Sale and Bake Sale at the Elks Lodge
* 11am to 4pm – Bake Sale at Safeway
Help local Relay for Life Teams raise money and paint the town purple this Saturday by visiting their fundraising events around town this Saturday, then mark your calendars for the big Relay for Life event coming June 7^th.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL CELEBRATION
The City of Valdez and the Valdez School District will have a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Middle School on Friday, May 24^th from noon to 1:30pm. There will be a shovel ceremony, group photo in front of the school and a free community barbecue.

Valdez will be honoring military this Monday at Noon at the Elks Lodge. The service will not be held at Memorial Park as usual due to the snow. This service is open to the public
