VHS Wrestling: (Coach Tyler Thompson)
The Valdez wrestlers kicked of the season this past weekend at Houston & Wasilla High School. Varsity wrestlers, including Connor Britt (junior) & Jayce
Lindekugel (sophomore) took to the mat at “The Altercation” at Houston High School. Britt and Lindekugel experienced both the highs and lows that competition have to offer.
Britt received a bye in the first round moving him forward into the quarterfinals. He came out with some fire to pick a first period pin that propelled him into the semi-finals on Saturday morning. Britt suffered two losses on Saturday dropping him out of the tournament.
Lindekugel took to the mat in the first round suffering a tough loss to a returning state placer from Colony High School. However, he came back to pick up a fall in the second round on the consolations side of the bracket. Lindekugel was brought down in the next round after a heart wrenching loss in triple overtime.
JV wrestlers went to battle on Saturday at Wasilla High School during the JV tournament. These wrestlers included Caleb MacPherson, Cora Kagak, Ethan Kockentiet, Sullivan Holt, and Dustin Woods. The drive to and from Palmer went very well. Clear roads and weather on the way down, and hit a snow storm in Eureka on the way back. We did not get to take the entire team due to illness, but the swimmers who went did seem to be doing much better than they did the weekend before which is great. We have about two weeks to get healthy & prepare for Regions. I am very excited about Regions and I can’t wait to see how this tough team preforms!!
This swim meet was literally a dress rehearsal for Regions. We got an opportunity to swim in the pool & against all the teams that we will be seeing at Regions. The veteran swimmers were faster at this meet than they were at Regions last year. With our Preparation & Technical suits I feel we will have an excellent showing in two weeks.
